Danny Lopez is a man of many talents. First and foremost he is an outstanding actor having appeared in over 500 productions for stage, TV and film beginning at the tender age of 7 in a TV commercial. More recently he completed the movie “Eldorado” co-starring with Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah and David Carradine (sadly Carradine’s last film before he passed away). He also played the Mad Hatter for the new music video “Alice” by Avril Lavigne which features as the soundtrack for Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” motion picture. Danny recently starred in “Piece by Piece”, a psychological thriller produced and directed by Eric Dunn, and will be working with Dunn again later this year (2012) shooting “Bootlegger Trail” to be directed by Joel Corda.
In addition to Danny’s prodigious acting ability (“An actor with incredible range” – Entertainment Weekly) he also has the phenominal good fortune to look remarkably like Johnny Depp. So much so, in fact, that it is not at all uncommon for him to be mistaken for Johnny when he’s out and about – the resultant scramble for photos and autographs spreading excitement and mayhem wherever he goes.
Always the consummate professional, Danny was quick to realise early on that his dual gifts of having Depp’s looks combined with unequivocal talent in dramatic art presented him with a unique opportunity to develop an unrivalled tribute act to Johnny. It is my sincere belief that Danny’s portrayal of Depp and the many colourful Depp characters is unequalled in the industry. Johnny Depp impersonators are numerous. Often they will concentrate on a single character – usually Capt. Jack Sparrow. The outrageous costumes and make-up combined with the larger-than-life caricatures of many of Depp’s most famous characters tend to make people believe they will be easy to imitate. But Danny’s interpretation is different. He doesn’t imitate, he performs. As the gallery of photos here demonstrates Danny puts his all into his interpretation of a role. Rather than simply putting on a costume and looking the part Danny does what Johnny himself does by immersing himself completely in the characterisation.
But what really makes Danny the world’s undisputed number one Depp lookalike is his ability to portray the man himself. That is something which is not done often and is very rarely done well. Indeed, it is a fitting tribute and a measure of his outstanding ability that his performances have been acclaimed by A-listers Christopher Lee, Orlando Bloom and John O’Hurley.
In a particularly strange quirk of fate, Danny’s girlfriend, Claire Renvoize*, is an outstanding professional impersonator of Vanessa Paradis, Johnny Depp’s partner and mother of his two children. Danny and Claire are much in demand portraying this most famous of showbiz couples. They love working together and if chaos ensues when Danny is mistaken for Johnny in the street, just imagine the pandemonium when the two of them are seen out together. As this newspaper clipping shows, they can bring an entire town to a standstill ! Danny, Claire, the world loves you.
